About me

My name is Benjamin Sonnex. I am a Psychotherapist and my therapy modality is Core Process Psychotherapy.Core Process Psychotherapy is the practice of mindfulness in the intimate relationship formed between you, my client and I, your therapist. This mindfulness based therapy combines Buddhist and Western psychology to support our shared, deeply compassionate inquiry into the nature of any kind of emotional and spiritual challenge you might need support with. My practice involves deep relational attunement to you that allows the deepest relational wounds to finally be met and healed in an authentically kind and compassionate relationship, within safe and healthy relational boundaries.I began my psychotherapy training in 2021. This part of my own personal life journey was initiated in response to my own experiences of deep relational suffering and an intuition that I held life-long relational wounds from my childhood. An instinctive part of me recognised that my coping strategies were no longer working and that I needed to meet my pain in a new and different way. I felt a strong pull to follow the feeling in my heart - a deep longing to experience an enduring sense of calm, ease, love and peace, that instinctively felt possible.I am now an Advanced Student of Core Process Psychotherapy at the renowned Karuna Institute, accredited by the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). My work is supported by my own weekly psychotherapy, and I have regular psychotherapeutic supervision with expert practitioners to support me to work safely, ethically and with integrity.Through the practice of this healing modality I have rediscovered a deep sense of compassion towards myself and towards others, and from this experience of compassion, my sense of love and belonging in the world and with others has flowered. I now feel a dimension of my life that feels profound, sacred and reassuring. This gives me faith that even the deepest relational wounds can be healed when met with openness, non-judgment, spaciousness and the passage of time, in the company of genuinely loving individuals, beings such as animals, and/or even natural environments. I believe there is an inherent wholeness and belonging at the core of everyone and everything, that can heal us if we can support one another to turn towards it.Alongside my private practice, I work with psychotherapy clients at the Macmillan Horizon Centre based in Brighton and Hove. My work here has gifted me with the honour of walking alongside and supporting inspirational individuals, overcoming the most challenging of personal and familial circumstances, that is, coming into relationship their own mortality or that of their most cherished loved ones. The work we share together is wide and deep, touching on all areas of life with a vitality that is characteristic of being in contact with the deepest personal and interpersonal spiritual roots of our common experience as human beings. I feel honoured to meet and walk alongside each individual in this intimate and vulnerable capacity.I have also been working since February 2024 as a Healthcare Assistant in NHS mental health hospital wards and a Recovery Advisor in NHS funded community crisis support services. In these settings I have sat with and supported people experiencing acutely overwhelming life circumstances and correspondingly overwhelming states of impaired mental health. My experiences have served to strengthen my resolve that the even most challenging life circumstances can be transformed and repaired through the re-humanising effect of genuinely compassionate human relationship and heartfelt support.Together, we can spend time being with your difficult experiences - ones that might have lead to you feeling stuck or hopeless in the past. It is by this process of accepting and sitting with difficult, seemingly stuck feelings and experiences, that your inner compass will find the space to shine through and for real, lasting change to happen.I practice in-person at Wilderness Wood, Hadlow Down in East Sussex (TN22 4HJ) and also online. If you would like to explore working together then please - Get in touch - I offer a free initial 45 minute online-consultation for this purpose.
